Goodbye to the States, and Hello to Mexico
It is really weird to think about, but we finally feel like we have begun our trip even though we have been on the road nearly four months and more than 14,000 miles. We’ve had an amazing experience driving around the US and have visited so many beautiful places.
We have finally gone south of the border and into Baja California, Mexico! After a hectic morning driving around San Diego and crossing off our checklist of last minute errands, we arrived at the Mexico border in Tijuana around noon. The border formalities were amazingly easy and straightforward. In fact we weren’t even stopped going across, and locating the immigration building inside Tijuana was very easy, with signs directing us directly into the parking lot. The immigration process for us and the vehicle took about an hour and was amazingly hassle free (this might have been helped by Luis’ fluency in spanish).
Once we had our paperwork in order we realized we hadn’t eaten anything all day, so we decided that now was as good a time as any to start our Mexican taco experience. We will talk a lot more about tacos in posts to come. The border tacos were pretty good, but definitely not the best we will have. With our bellies full we headed on down the road to Ensenada to pick up our new roof rack at BajaRack, who is one of our few and fine sponsors. We took the toll road to Ensanada which is a nice two lane highway along the coast. The total cost for the toll road was about $6 USD. It was nice to drive by the ocean again and we were both a little giddy.
We’ve finally left the states and are on our way south!!! Pictures and posts on the way… really.
I am so glad you guys are finally moving! I wish you the best of luck and have lots of fun!
