Colorado and Utah… or as we say around here: “Utah Rocks!”

This post is part of our “Catching Up” program…. we want to post entries into the blog in a timely fashion and a little more “Journal” like, but we are far behind (note to self: start writing a journal every day); therefore, we appologize for relatively brief descriptions of this and the last post :)

We arrived in Colorado the last day of a pretty nasty cold spell, so after a night in a motel in eastern Kansas we spent another motel night in Denver, Colorado.

After a nice day of wandering the streets of Denver we set out to visit Proffitt’s Cruisers.  For those of you who are not Landcruiser fanatics this may not mean much, but for Luis this was a big thing.  Proffit’s specializes in doing anything and everything to Landcruisers of all models and years.  A sort of mecca for a geek like Luis.  They welcomed us warmly at Proffit’s and Ian performed some minor tune up work on the truck, while John gave us the grand tour of the place.   Luis drooled and daydreamed… after a few hours we decided to move on even though Ian was kind enough to offer us a spot to camp on his property.

We had our welcome back to dispersed camping land (read: free camping on National Forests and BLM land).  We found a great spot with a small fire ring… for the following 2 weeks we enjoyed the beauty and the bounty of the state of Utah and all its parks and forests.  Arches NP, Manti-Lasal NF, Moab, Canyonlands NP, Capitol Reef NP, Dixie NF, Bryce Canyon NP, and last but not least Zion NP.

It is crazy!  Really, look at a map of Utah, the southern portion of the state is all public lands and it is amazing… there are no words that we can come up with that can aptly describe this land.  We lost count of the amount of times we came around a corner of the road or trail and one of us said: “WOW!”  There is free camping everywhere in the most beautiful spots you can imagine.

Enjoy the pics.  There is very many of them and we recommend using the PicLens option if you can… we are still editing the names. Sorry, we seem to be having too much fun to sit on our computers :)
